A Little Help From A Friend

On Sunday morning prior to my first 10k race of the year I tweeted: “First race day of the year. Undertrained, overweight, knackered and have a cold. Will give it a poke anyway!” Whilst I was hustling a little, there was an element of truth in the sentiment. I was about 5 pounds over what I believe is my ideal race weight, I’d only really had a five week spell of consistent training, my darling daughter had been up through the night a couple of times and I had a slight sniffle.

Life Begins At Sub-40

This time last year I set myself three running targets for 2012 with a base and stretch version of each. I hit one stretch target, one base target and missed one altogether.

A Season Finale Cliffhanger

Last weekend I completed my final race of 2012, the reportedly very fast Andy Reading 10k in Chesterton near Bicester.   I believe that I’ve spent significant periods of 2012 in shape to run a aub 40 minute 10k, but never managed to squeeze in a race over that distance when in peak condition.  In fact, my PB of 40:27 dates back to early 2011. This time round I was certainly not at my absolute best but hoped I could lower my PB at least.

On Sunday I drove down to the Olympic rowing venue at Dorney Lake, scene of a couple of my previous running PBs for the April edition of the Maxifuel 10k series.  Accompanied by the two Dans from work we arrived typically early for the unusual 12:30pm start time.
